Hiroshige Ando
From 1797 to 1858 (Kansei 9 to Ansei 5), he became a student of Utagawa Toyohiro and entered the ukiyoe world, not wanting to accept the position of fireman's apprentice. At first, he painted beauties and portraits of actors, but he gained fame for his landscapes and became a leading artist of landscape prints. He also left behind flower-and-bird and hand-painted works. His representative works include "The Fifty-three Stages of the Tokaido", "Famous Places in the Eastern Capital", and "Eight Views of Omi".
