Description
The invisible, which has been handed down since ancient times, is captured as if it were visible. The definitive collection of Todaiji photos! This book is the definitive collection of photographs of Todaiji Temple, which was realized by photographer Kazuyoshi Miyoshi, who was fortunate to have miraculous conditions in Nara in order to recreate the magnificent blooming of the Tenpyo culture. The book features a dazzling array of beautiful moments from season to season, including the majestic Daibutsuden (Great Buddha Hall), which emerges from the clear winter night sky with the North Star directly above it and countless stars in the background, and the sea of clouds that envelops the temple grounds in the early morning, only to disappear a moment later as if in a dream. In addition, with special permission, we were able to photograph the mysterious Shuni-e (water-drawing) ceremony held in Nigatsudo, the standing statue of Bodhisattva Amoghapasa (national treasure) enshrined in Hokkedo (Sangatsudo), the standing statue of the secret Buddhist deity *Chikakumarigami (national treasure), the standing statues of the Four Heavenly Kings, Birth Shaka Buddha and Rushanabutsu (national treasure) in Kaitan-in, and other Buddhist statues that are usually not seen in regular visits to the temple. The beautiful colors, delicate decorations, and powerful expressions of the statues were captured in details that could not be seen during a normal visit to the temple. Episodes of photography are also included at the end of the book. Author/Kazuyoshi Miyoshi |
