| *Shikishi [National Treasure, Huikai Danjobu], By Sesshu*. Sesshu, Aichi Pref. *What is a collotype*? While offset printing, a common printing method, expresses colors and shading with a density of small dots, collotype expresses them with continuous gradation, allowing for more realistic and precise detail, just like in a photograph. Sesshu Born in Bicchu (Okayama Prefecture) between 1420 and 1506, Sesshu went to Kyoto at the age of 13 to study ink painting at Shokokuji Temple. He was also skillful in decorative painting of flowers and birds. Since he lived as a free painter, he had few direct disciples and did not form a school. His representative works include "Amanohashidate," "Landscape," and five other national treasures. |

雪舟（せっしゅう）
応永27〜永正3年（1420〜1506）、備中（岡山県）生まれ。13歳で京へのぼり、相国寺で水墨画を学んだ。47歳頃中国へ渡り、当時の様式を脱した独自の水墨画を完成させた。花や鳥の装飾画も巧みであった。自由な画僧として生活したため直弟子が少なく、流派を形成していない。代表作は『天橋立図』『山水図』など国宝5点にも及ぶ。
