いくつもあり、それぞれに技法や模様の特徴がありますが、
版木には同じようにシーシャム(インドローズウッド・紫檀)や
チーク材を使っています。版木は専門の彫り師によって
作られていて、熟練の職人が作った版の線は50年も
くっきりと使い続けることができるそうです。
ブロックプリントの魅力はこの版木製作に始まって、すべて
手作業による手仕事ならではの味わいと自然とのデリケートな
関係から生まれます。というのは染めの色合いが気温や湿度
日照時間によって微妙に変化するからです。
ブロックプリントは色別に木版を作り、ハンコを押すように色を重ね
幾度もの水洗いをし、その都度、太陽に乾かす必要があります。
その作業は刻々と流れる時間のなかで自然の変化に合わせながら
人間のたゆみない手作業で行われます。均一性や同一性に
