The pioneers who worked hard, persevered, and took action for the benefit of others are featured, including those who drained wasteland and turned it into rich farmland, those who built railroads through deep snow, those who dug through hard rocks with chisels and pickaxes to create water, and those who built erosion control weirs to prevent landslides in rivers! The book explains how they saved local people in need with photos and illustrations. A worksheet is included at the end of the book, which is useful for practicing "Shirabe-Gakushu" (study through investigation) to organize materials and summarize ideas. In this series, one hero from each of the 47 prefectures is introduced for each of the fields of [development], [education], [medicine], [culture], and [industry]. A total of 235 heroes are featured in this highly readable series. |
