Description
Naoya Ueda Author Reconstruction of a multifaceted image of the Kofun period based on analysis of burial facilities and rituals. Political history of the Kofun period has been studied based on bronze mirrors, iron armor, and other burial accessories. In this book, we focus on burial facilities called pit-type stone chambers and clay burial mounds in the first half of the Kofun period, extracting commonalities* and regional characteristics from their structures, and reconstructing what kind of political networks were formed by the influential classes at that time. In addition, by examining the transition of burial rituals from the beginning of the Kofun period to the emergence of yokoana-shiki stone burial chambers, we will highlight the establishment, rise, and disappearance of Japanese kofun burial mounds. This is an important basic work for examining the historical significance of the Kofun period in the context of not only domestic history but also world history. The significance of the extensive and long-term coverage, exhaustive collection of materials, and precise analysis is also great. |
