Description
| Koishiwara Pottery has a history of about 350 years, dating back to the early Edo period, and was the first pottery in Japan to be designated as a traditional craft. In Asakura-gun, Fukuoka Prefecture, Higashimine Village (formerly Koishiwara Village), surrounded by mountains and rich in nature, pottery has flourished since ancient times, and mainly miscellaneous daily utensils have been produced while carefully carrying on traditional techniques. The traditional technique of "tobikanna" is a typical Koishiwara pottery technique, in which a geometric pattern is manually carved with the edge of a plane while turning a bowl made of freshly-dried red clay covered with white glaze on a potter's wheel. The simple design of the planes looks uniform, but the rustic and warm atmosphere is wonderful. We hope you will enjoy these vessels with the "beauty of use" that has been handed down for a long time. |
