Description
| New Stories Created from Ready-made Products Photographer* Shinichi Kaneko, a specialist in still-life photography, has created a series of photographs of plastic containers collected from around the world with unique lighting. In his photographic methodology, he uses a technique of strong light but matte filter work to eliminate surface halos to the utmost limit, bringing to light figures and appearances that are normally invisible. Plastic products are collected from 20 cities around the world. He visited many cities himself and went to several large suburban supermarkets, DIY centers, and medium-sized supermarkets in the city to find bottles with interesting shapes. Readymade is a concept of contemporary art proposed by Marcel Duchamp, which refers to a series of works based on industrial products and is defined as a "thorough lack of taste" or "visual indifference. In contrast, Kaneko's work is an attempt to "discover new stories" in ready-made objects. [In the READYMADE series, Kaneko decides on the lighting, slowly rotates the object to be photographed, adjusts the height of the camera, and determines the shadows of the object. The process, he says, is similar to playing Tsume-Shogi, a Japanese chess game. When the subject's individuality is brought out to the fullest extent, the plastic container appears before the viewer as a separate entity that has surpassed its original role. [English/Japanese] |
