Shion-iro is an elegant purple color with bluish and gray tones, just like the flowers of Shion. This color, dyed with purple root and mordanted with camellia lye, was loved in the Heian period (794-1185) and appears in the Tale of Genji and other literature of the Heian period (794-1185). [The spirit of respect for purple has been handed down to the present, and even Sei Shonagon wrote, "Purple is the best of all worlds. Please enjoy the gradation of colors produced by the natural flow of the glaze, which differs from one piece to another. Hundreds of combinations of shapes and glazes have been used to create SETOKARA's unique pieces. In order to create durable vessels, the clay is carefully selected and fired at a high temperature of 1320°C (1320°F). By burning off impurities in the clay, stronger and long-lasting vessels are realized. The craftsmen pour their experience and skills into the finishing touches, without regard for the labor involved, the amount of loss, or the difficulty of high-temperature firing. The back side is engraved with the [Mugiyama Kiln] mark. Some parts are unglazed to prevent burning on the shelf. Since all of our products are handmade, there may be individual differences and unevenness in color, but we make every effort to deliver a product that is close to the image.
