The Buddha Wishing to Return to His Hometown
A picture book of folk tales to be read and passed down from generation to generation

Keishoin became the wife of Iemitsu, the third Tokugawa Shogun.
Her son was Tsunayoshi, the fifth shogun.

Tsunayoshi made a strict rule forbidding all killing,
Katsura Shoin prayed every day for a peaceful world.

One day, in a village called Suka, a shining Amida was found.
Katsura Shoin immediately went to Edo Castle to welcome the Amitabha, but this was a big mistake.
One morning, Katsura Shoin's eyes suddenly went blind.

The good doctor was unable to cure him, and he continued to worship Amida day and night,
Amida stood by her bedside.
Katsura Shoin realized how to live a life of gratitude and not monopolize it.

[Editor's Comment].
This is an old tale about the Amida Nyorai Buddha, enshrined at Chokoji Temple in Gyoda City, Saitama Prefecture.
Picture book author Hiroyuki Yuzawa has created this story in a style that is easy to relate to today's children.
