現在つくられているアップルレザーは、30％程度のリンゴ由来の成分を含む合成皮革です。リンゴ由来のバイオ成分が入っているので樹脂の使用がかなり少なくて済み、人体や環境に優しいのが特長です。
動物の革に似た柔らかいテクスチャーで軽く使いやすく、さらに撥水性があるので水に濡れて変色したりする心配がありません。合皮として扱われますが、一般的な合皮とは違い加水分解が起きづらいので、経年劣化でボロボロになることもありません。
