I used to be able to cook several dishes at the same time, but recently I have become somewhat slow in my cooking. I returned to my desk after finishing an urgent task that my boss suddenly asked me to do, and then I lost track of what I had been doing until then. Have you ever had this experience? In our daily lives, there are many situations in which we need to remember the things we need to do for a short period of time in order to achieve our goals. This is where working memory comes into play, the keystone of human intelligence. Working memory has severe capacity constraints and varies from person to person. These characteristics are responsible for the decline in reading comprehension observed in many of today's young people, as well as for forgetfulness due to cognitive decline in the elderly. This presentation will elucidate the mechanism and function of working memory, which has a significant impact on our lives, and present the latest findings on the effects of working memory training and its relationship to intelligence and genetic factors. The difference between intelligence and generative AI, which is the human generative memory working memory plays a role in, will also be explained. |
