イギリスと日本の国交が約170年。
この素晴らしい国との私の関係も、
気づけば35年になります。
すべての始まりは、15歳の夏。
ウィンザーでの1か月のホームステイでした。
そこで本物のイギリスに触れ、
王室の歴史や階級社会の違い、
そしてイギリス英語に興味を持ち、
私の「イギリス大好き病」が発症。
さらに音楽、映画、ファッション、
アート、文学……と憧れは募る一方でした。
高校に通いながらアルバイトをして、
初ホームステイで友情を育んだKちゃんに会いに
17歳で単身渡英(応援してくれた両親には心から感謝!)。
その後もイギリスへの情熱は冷めやらず、
大学卒業、就職を経てスコットランドのグラスゴーで
2年半を過ごしました。
イングランドとは全く異なる
ユニークな文化があるスコットランドも
紛れもないイギリス、
その日々は、今でも私の宝物です。
その後、スイスに拠点を移してからも、
年に一度は必ずイギリスを訪れ、各地を旅し、
友人たちとの再会を楽しんでいます。
今でも、訪れるたびに新しい発見があります。
そして2024年、長年の夢だった修士課程を
コーンウォールのファルマス大学で修了し、
美術修士号を取得。
アートという視点から、
イギリス文化への理解をより深めました。
大学院で出会った各地から集まった
イギリス人アーティストたちとの交流も、
かけがえのない財産です。
在住経験は少しだけですが、35年間にわたり、
旅行者としてイギリスを見つめ続けてきました。
そんな私だからこそ気づけた魅力があります。
