Description
| This Roman glass pendant is a breath of ancient times. It is said that glass manufacturing, which originated in Egypt*Mesopotamia 4,000 years ago B.C., developed rapidly during the Roman Empire, and that beautifully decorated glass was already being used as tableware and containers in that period. Glassware from that period underwent a scientific change called "silversmithing" over many years in the ground, and when excavated in modern times, they have a beautiful silvery appearance and are ready to be seen in the light of day. We have acquired a limited number of Roman glasses that have been awakened from their long sleep. We carefully reformed them one by one and revived them as silver accessories. The number of stores that deal in Roman glass is really limited. Although excavation of ancient ruins continues, there is a limit to the number of pieces that can be unearthed, and those that are unearthed end up in museums or in the hands of vendors in their original form, so it is rare to find pieces that can be processed into accessories. Even if there are, most of them are simple pieces of shards or fragments that are made into accessories in their original form. While it is fine to enjoy the materials as they are, this time, we focused on adding some modifications to these precious materials to bring out their charms. Natural stones used in jewelry are first produced as lumpy pieces, which are then cut and polished into what are called gemstones. Similarly, Roman glass is cut, polished, and set in a silver frame to create a sublime appearance as an accessory. The impression of the product alone is attractive, but we would like to sell it with an explanation of the origin of roman glass. 紀元前4000年前のエジプト・メソポタミア地域を起源とするガラス製造は、古代ローマ帝国時代に急速な発展を遂げ、既にその時代に美しく装飾が施されたガラスが食器や容器として使われていたと言われています。その時代のガラス製品は、土の中で深い年月をかけて「銀化」と呼ばれる科学変化を起こし、現代になって発掘されたときに美しく銀色に輝く姿になって日の目を見ることになります。
その長い年月の眠りから覚めたローマングラスを限定入手。ひとつひとつ丁寧にリフォームし、シルバーアクセサリーとして蘇らせました。
あっても破片や断片をそのままの形でアクセサリーにしてしまう単純なものがほとんどです。素材そのままを楽しむという感じでそれも良いと思いますが、貴重なものだからこそ手を加えて魅力を引き出すことにこだわったのが今回の品。
アクセサリーにセットされる天然石も最初はゴツゴツした塊で産出され、それをカットと研磨によって宝石と呼ばれる形に加工されます。
同様にローマングラスもカットと研磨で形を整えてシルバー枠にセットすると、アクセサリーとして見事に昇華した姿を現すのです。
商品の印象だけでも人を惹きつける魅力がありますが、是非ともローマングラスの生い立ちの説明を添えて販売したいですね。
