| [The U.S. military's cold weather clothing system, introduced in the 1980s, entered its third generation in the 2000s, combining seven levels (types) of clothing from LEVEL 1 to LEVEL 7, and can be used in temperatures ranging from minus 46 degrees to minus 1 degree Celsius. LEVEL 3 is a fleece winter jacket that, when combined with LEVEL 1 and 2 underwear and LEVEL 7 winter coats, can adapt to environments ranging from minus 18 to minus 46 degrees Celsius. The first generation was a pile jacket with excellent thermal protection, but it was a very thick fabric. Compared to the 2nd generation, the 3rd generation has been changed to an even lighter weight material, with less thickness, and with a specification that emphasizes ease of movement during activities.
