The obsession of an art-crazed old man is in his hand-paintings!

The world's largest collection of his paintings, never to be seen outside the museum.
The world's first and long-awaited book publication!     The world's first and long-awaited book!

In recent years, there has been a growing interest in Hokusai's paintings, in which he attempted to reach the "realm of the gods" until his death at the age of 90.
This book is the world's first publication of this collection, which boasts the world's largest collection of Hokusai's paintings in terms of quality and quantity, but which has never been known in Japan due to the ironclad rule of "not to be shown outside the museum".
The book contains about 100 masterpieces of "paintings" and "drawings" carefully selected from the collection. This groundbreaking book offers a glimpse into the secrets of Hokusai's brushwork through a composition that makes full use of partial explanations of his experimental brushstrokes, expressions, and attempts at subject matter as an exploration of self-expression.

Included are more than 60 ukiyoe woodblock prints of the unfinished "Hyakunin Isshu Ubagae toki" (One Hundred Poems by One Hundred Poets) with line drawings so precise that even an engraver would be unable to reproduce them.

Smithsonian Institution Freer Gallery of Art

The Freer Gallery of Art is operated by the world-renowned Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C., USA.
The museum houses the Asia-related collection of Mr. Freer, a businessman.

The museum boasts the world's largest collection of Hokusai Katsushika's 200-plus paintings, which are of the highest quality and quantity.

The condition of the donation, that the works must not be taken out of the museum, has never been violated, and the collection has been called a "phantom collection.
