国の指定する伝統工芸品『江戸切子』は江戸時代から続く東京下町の伝統工芸品です。
1350度で溶けているガラスを熟練の技で透明と色ガラスの二重構造に仕上げ、巧みの技を持つ江戸切子の職人が一つ一つ丁寧にグラスをカット(削る)していきます。
カットすることにより表面の色ガラスから内側の透明なグラスが見えてきて、透明と色ガラスの素晴しいコントラストが、伝統の文様や花切子のデザインで浮き上がります。
