Description
This is a collaboration of a tea caddy made by Endate Kogeisha of Bihoro Town, Hokkaido, Japan, and a carving by Mr. Hiroshi Washizuka of Washizuka Sculpture in Takayama City, Gifu Prefecture, Japan. All tea caddies are handmade using a "woodworking wheel" and undergo a two-stage drying process: rough drilling, drying, finishing, and drying. By taking the time and effort to dry them carefully, shrinkage and cracks are minimized, and they are finished with minimal distortion. The wood is made of Enju (Japanese pagoda tree) from Hokkaido, which grows in extremely cold climates. It is hard and requires a high level of skill to process, but it is an excellent wood with beautiful grain and a profound color. The carving on the surface was left to the sensitivity of traditional craftsman* Washizuka, and the result is a beautiful tea caddy with the shades of the wood grain highlighted even more. We hope you will enjoy this magnificent piece, which is the result of the combined skills and techniques of a woodworker from the north and a carver from Hida. |
