栃/とち
＜特徴＞
栃は絹杢と言われ、細かい木目が美しい樹種。
年輪が不明瞭な散孔材。色は黄白色?淡黄褐色。
緻密な木目は磨くとシルクのような光沢があり、縮みは「ちりめん杢（縮緬状の木目のこと）」
「リップルマーク（漣紋）」ともいい、珍重されている。
耐久性は低いが、加工性に優れ、大径木が採れる有用材。
縮杢や波杢、斑杢等が現れたものは銘木として扱われる。
＜用途＞
大物の工芸品、家具（特にテーブル天板）に使用される。
リップルマークの出ているものは、茶道具や細工物、装飾の材料として重宝される。
