The arare pattern on the bottom of the tetsubin makes the tetsubin thicker and more effective at retaining heat, which is the result of our ancestors' ingenuity and intricate design. By making the bottom flat and wide, the tetsubin can be used over direct flame as well as IH 200V. It is also convenient for boiling small amounts of water.
