The EF58 electric locomotive was introduced as a passenger electric locomotive in 1946, soon after the end of World War II, and 172 cars were manufactured in total by 1958, playing a major role in passenger transportation on the main trunk lines of Japan National Railways until its last days. This book contains carefully selected photographs of EF58s taken by the author during the two years from the March 14, 1985 timetable revision to the last day of JNR service on March 31, 1987. The book also includes images of JNR trains that were active in the same period, and shows the heroic appearance of the flower-shaped electric locomotive at the end of the JNR era.
