The warmth of handmade by hand and the rich expression created by the kiln change are appealing. This is a beer cup made of Bizen ware with a Hidasuki pattern, which is not flashy but never gets boring, and the more you use it, the more you appreciate its taste. Hidasuki" is a pattern of red, brown, and vermilion lines on a light brown base, like a "tasuki" (a sash). When the piece is fired by wrapping straw around the base and placing it in a "saya" (a container for firing pottery), the entire piece is burned to a light brown color close to the base because it is not directly exposed to flames or ashes, and the areas exposed to the straw are colored scarlet. It is said that alcohol, beer, water, etc. served in Bizen ware cups taste mellower than in ordinary cups, and can be drunk with great relish.
