Mosquito net fabric kitchen cloth This comfortable Kyoto kitchen cloth can be used daily as a kitchen cloth or hand towel. Mosquito net fabric, a specialty of Nara Prefecture, is highly absorbent, dries quickly, and becomes softer with each wash. About the Gion Festival The Gion Festival was formerly known as the Gion Goryokai. It is said to have originated in 869 (Jokan 11) during the Heian period (794-1185), when an epidemic spread to the capital and other parts of Japan, and 66 floats, the number of floats in the country at that time, were erected in Shinsen-en Garden in Kyoto to pray for the eradication of the epidemic and good health. After the Onin War, the townspeople, wishing for the restoration of the Gion Festival, took control of the Yamaboko floats and began to decorate them with Japanese crafts and imported goods obtained through the trade with the South, transforming them into gorgeous and gorgeous floats. Today, the Yamaboko procession is said to be a "moving museum. |
