Netsuke with lucky charms
Seven Gods of Good Luck x Shozai Shinbou
Beautifully and delicately carved with the designs of the Seven Gods of Good Fortune with great attention to detail.

*Seven Gods of Good Fortune [Shichifukujin]
The Seven Gods of Good Fortune are seven gods believed to bring good fortune in Japan, and each of them is said to have the divine power to purge seven kinds of misfortune and bring seven kinds of good luck. The designs on the background of the Seven Gods of Good Fortune are also derived from each of the deities, and are said to wish for even greater good fortune.

*Inviting fortune and pushing toward treasure [shozaishinbou (treasure ship)].
Zaizaijinbao" means "to invite wealth and advance toward treasure. In China and Taiwan, it is a word of good omen that if one advances in pursuit of treasure, he or she will be able to accumulate wealth and prosper in his or her descendants. In Feng Shui, it is also valued as a word that brings fortune and business luck. The engraved characters are a combination of the characters for "Zaizhaijinbao" (treasure ship).

*A lozenge design to drive away evil and ward off evil spirits.
The "rhombus pattern" carved on both sides of the boxwood is said to be a design of the fruit or leaf of the hishi (water chestnut) plant. The hishi has two sharp spikes facing the opposite direction on both ends of the diamond shape, and is believed to "dispel evil and ward off evil spirits" because of its hard fruit.
