イカットとは、絣(かすり)織のことです。縦糸と横糸をあらかじめ決まった模様に染色し、その順番に沿って織って行きます。あらかじめ、糸の長さを計算して染めて織っていく、非常に複雑な技法です。

日本でも、絣織りの生地は江戸時代のころに沢山作られていました。現在でも、日本各地で伝統的技法として、織られております。
