The time is the Heian period. The main character, Sadamichi Taira no Sadamichi, is a son of Minamoto no Yorimitsu. Soon after he becomes a rôto, he makes the acquaintance of a white fox named Hatsuki, and they begin to help each other beyond their ranks. Sadamichi is especially close to Sue-take, a slightly older man and a master archer, and is busy helping the unfortunate Princess Sa-in, escorting Michinaga Fujiwara as a boy, and taking part in the defeat of the bandit Hakamadaru. Sadamichi later became known for his bravery as one of the "Four Heavenly Kings of Raikou" along with Watanabe Tsuna, Sakata no Kintoki, and Taira no Suehake.
