地上に近い所から下に向かって「八大地獄」活・黒縄・合・叫喚・大叫喚・焦熱・大焦熱・阿鼻があり、それぞれに十六の小さい地獄「十六別所」があるので、全部でな・ん・と128ヶ所! ! !

◆作品紹介◆
仏教には仏の世界とわたしたちが住む世界、そして地獄の世界があります。
悪いことをすると、死後に罪状に応じて地獄に堕ち報いを受けるとされており、国宝「地獄草紙」では、罪人が地獄で受ける報いの数々が恐ろしく、時にユーモラスな描写で表現されています。
