Description
*Book [Convenience Store Booklet Series [The Story of Photographing the Mural Paintings of Takamatsuzuka Tumulus in Commemoration of the Forty-Fifth Anniversary of the Discovery of the Mural Paintings]]*] A book about the Takamatsuzuka burial mound murals, how they were photographed immediately after excavation, and the secret story behind them! I was surprised when I shone a 150-watt lamp for photography. I could clearly see the human figures painted on the wall, which I could not see when I looked at it from the outside. The shadow images were so beautiful and vivid that I could only watch in silence for a while, gasping for breath. The painting here must also have been illuminated by such bright light for the first time - (from this book [Memories of photographing the Takamatsuzuka burial mound]) On March 21, 1972, an extremely colorful mural painting was found in [Takamatsuzuka Tumulus] in Asuka Village, Takaichi County, Nara Prefecture. A few days later, a color photograph gracing the front page of a newspaper became a symbol of the discovery of the mural painting, along with the name "Asuka Bijin" (Asuka Beauty), and became a sensation. In this book, the secret story of the excavation and photography is told through the writings of Fuminori Sugaya, former director of the Archaeological Institute of Kashihara, who was in charge of the Nara Prefecture side at the time, and Takeo Oyagi, former photographic technician at Convenido, who actually took the photographs. In addition, the art historical value of the mural paintings is described by Yoshitaka Aruga, visiting professor at Tokyo University of the Arts, and the latest findings of the tomb mound research are written by Toru Tateishi, former investigator for the Kofuku Mural Countermeasures of the Cultural Agency. The book also includes a direct dialogue between Sugaya and Oyagi held at the Convenience Hall Collotype Gallery in 2017, making it an extremely valuable resource for understanding the process of excavating and photographing the Takamatsuzuka Tumulus mural paintings, which have been called [the discovery of the century]. The book contains many secret stories told by the people involved, such as the conditions at the site immediately after the excavation, the state of mind of the Convenient Hall photographer who took pictures in the cramped tomb, and the battle among the news media for the pictures taken, which have not faded away even more than 45 years after the discovery of the murals. We hope that this book will spark your interest in cultural properties and photographing them. Table of Contents *Yuichi Morikawa, Mayor of Asuka Village *Outline of Takamatsuzuka Tumulus *Mural painting of the Takamatsuzuka Tumulus, a national treasure *About the Mural Paintings of Takamatsuzuka Tumulus Visiting Professor Yoshitaka Aruga, Tokyo University of the Arts *[Latest Research Report]Research on Takamatsuzuka Tumulus|Focusing on the results of recent excavations Toru Tateishi, Deputy Director, Culture*Education*Livelihood Creation Department, Nara Prefectural Government *The Takamatsuzuka Tumulus Mural at the Time of Its Discovery and Archaeological Photography Fuminori Sugaya, Director, Archaeological Institute of Kashihara, Nara Prefecture *Memories of Photographing Takamatsuzuka Tomb Former Photography Technician at Toshindo, Takeo Oyagi *Documents: Photography data, original photographic plate data, list of original photographic plate images *Dialogue: The Secret Story of Photographing the Murals Fuminori Sugaya*Takeo Oyagi *Resources: Progress of the Takamatsuzuka burial mound survey *Project for full-size collotype reproduction of the mural paintings of Takamatsuzuka burial mound |
