*Hiroshi Masaki [Kyoto Shokei]*

This is an internationally published bilingual (Japanese*English) photo book by photographer Hiroshi Masaki that takes as its subject matter the Kyoto landscape and introduces a new perspective on the unique Japanese sense of beauty that emerges in traditional architecture, gardens, and cityscapes.

Masaki believes that in Kyoto's gardens and architecture [anything that is not essential is strictly excluded], and says, "I wanted to look at the Japanese landscape (in Kyoto) and the original qualities that underlie it with new eyes, while capturing the unique light and space.

[Architectural structures, gardens, and natural landscapes have changed over time. This publication is designed to convey the richness of Kyoto's remaining cultural resources, but I also want it to serve as a record of the beauty of Kyoto today for future generations. Through this book, we hope to introduce the beautiful harmony of nature, landscape, and tradition that has been preserved by the people of Kyoto. (Hiroshi Masaki]
