*Reduced folding screen [Jyufu Birds and Beasts with Flowers (left screen)] by Ito Jakuchu*. By Ito Jakuchu, Edo period, Shizuoka Prefectural Museum of Art *The right screen is sold separately. Jakuchu Ito Born in Kyoto between 1716 and 1800. He studied the Kano school while working for the family's wholesale store of green goods, but at the age of 39, he handed over the reigns of the family to his younger brother, and began to devote his life to painting. While studying the ancient paintings of the Yuan and Ming dynasties and the decorative paintings of the Korin school of Japanese and Chinese painting, he also worked on sketching plants and animals, and was especially good at painting chickens. He was called a "painter of strange ideas" because of his unique style of painting. His best-known works are his "dynamic plant paintings. |

伊藤若冲(いとう じゃくちゅう)
享保元〜寛政12年(1716〜1800)、京都生まれ。家業の青物問屋のかたわら狩野派を学ぶが、39歳で家督を弟へ譲り、絵に専念する生活に入る。元・明の古画と光琳派という和漢の装飾画を研究するかたわら、動植物の写生に勤め、特に鶏の絵を得意とした。独特の画風から「奇想の画家」と呼ばれた。代表作は『動植彩絵』。
