The exhibition brings together works by all 117 members of Inten, who have overcome the rigorous screening process to reach the pinnacle of the exhibition, as well as representative works and self-recommended works Here is a "great river of modern and contemporary Japanese painting" .
The Japan Art Institute was founded in 1898 by Yokoyama Taikan, Shimomura Kanzan, Hishida Shunso, and others to realize Okakura Tenshin's idea of "aiming for a new era of Japanese painting".
After a period of disappointment when its cutting-edge new techniques were not accepted by the public, Taikan and others restarted the Reinvented Japan Art Institute in 1914 (the first anniversary of Tenshin's death), which continues to this day.
In September 2025, the Reinvented Japan Art Institute will celebrate its 110th anniversary.
This book is intended to connect the 110 years of its history to the future by bringing together the works of the Inten coterie of artists who have supported the path of Japanese painting from the modern era to the present day, as well as representative works and self-recommended works.
