The A-bombed trees remember the war and the lives of people before the war, and keep them in their midst.
The documentary filmmaker will visit each tree with an arborist from Hiroshima,
A hibakusha (atomic bomb survivor) talks about his experience of the atomic bombing and his relationship with trees, and a university student at the time sketches trees after the bombing,
We also interviewed university students who sketched trees after the bombing, and a researcher who studied the shape of trees and the effects of radiation.
This is a nonfiction book about A-bombed trees and the atomic bombing.
Ten years have passed since the publication of "Meeting the Trees of Hiroshima" (written by Yuko Ishida, Kaiseisha) in 2015, and the environment surrounding the city of Hiroshima and the A-bombed trees has changed dramatically. In the year of the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II and the 80th anniversary of the atomic bombing, we decided to publish a new edition of the book, "Meeting the Trees of Hiroshima: The Future as Seen by the A-bombed Trees," with revised manuscripts and new photographs.
As people no longer speak of their A-bomb experiences, the importance of the A-bombed trees that live on today is increasing. In this book, we interviewed Chikara Horiguchi, an arborist who has been watching over A-bombed trees for a long time, A-bomb survivors who talked about their A-bomb experiences and their relationship with trees, and tree researchers. [This book is an opportunity for children to think about the atomic bombing and the atomic bombing, using "trees" as a gateway.
At the end of the book, a map of A-bombed trees and a tour of A-bombed trees recommended by Chikara Horiguchi, an arborist, are included.
