Description
It tries to see [the light] even when it seems to disappear. It was to sculpt its own life. On February 5, 2002, the same day 26 people were martyred in Nagasaki over 400 years ago, Yasutake Funakoshi's life [light] quietly faded away. ...... It was truly a sculpture creation with life. This book is a retrospective of the works and life of Yasutake Funakoshi, one of the leading figurative sculptors of postwar Japan, whose serene world created by marble, sandstone, and other stones has attracted many fans. Published to coincide with a large-scale retrospective exhibition to be held at the Iwate Prefectural Museum of Art in his hometown for the first time in 20 years. In addition to approximately 60 works from the museum collection and representative works from Japan and abroad, the book includes many drawings, including some never before exhibited. Author/Yasutake Funakoshi Contributors: Eisuke Wakamatsu (artist), Katsura Funakoshi (sculptor), Masakatsu Ohno (chief curator and head of the curatorial promotion section, Iwate Museum of Art), Takako Yoshida (curator, Iwate Museum of Art) B5 size, 152 pages, 60 works, many drawings |
