[All right, I'm going to be the best Helen Keller in Japan.] This is a fictional story written by the author, Rui Kotemari, with the heart of her blind mother in mind. All the words are written in Okayama dialect. (Ms. Kotemari is from Okayama). The episodes are realistic because they actually happened. If there were people with disabilities around you, you would not think of them as special, but would accept them as normal. This work was written to let children know about such a world. Mika Koshida's dynamic illustrations enhance the story. |

おかあちゃんは、ほとんど目がみえない。
三味線をひくのがうまい。口が悪くて、えばっていて、たくましい。
ひとりでどこへでも出かけていく。
みんなのことが、ぼ〜っとゆうれいみたいにしか見えていない、
と言っていたおかあちゃんの目が、ある日とうとう、何も見えなくなった。
その日だけ、おかあちゃんが泣いた。
でもおとうちゃんの一言
「目も悪くて、口も悪くて、意地も悪い。それはヘレン・ケラーじゃな」で、
お母ちゃんは笑顔に。
「ようし、こうなったら、日本一のヘレン・ケラーになっちゃるで」
作者の小手鞠るいさんが目の見えないお母さんに心を寄せて描いたフィクション。
全て岡山弁でつづる。（小手鞠さんは岡山出身）
エピソードは、実際あったことばかりなので、リアリティがある。
障害のある人が身近にいたら、障害を特別と思わず普通のこととして受け入れる、
そんな世界を子どもたちに知ってもらいたくてと書かれた作品。
