アフガニスタン、パキスタンに多く住むパシュトーン族。彼らの伝統衣装のドレスを「カミーズ」と言います。カミーズはインドの伝統衣装にもありますが、パシュトーン族のカミーズは胸元や袖まわりにカラフルなビーズを散りばめ、華やかな刺繍が施されています。
刺繍は女性の仕事で母親から娘に代々受け継がれていきます。女性用のドレスはよりカラフルで美しく、繊細な刺繍を縫っていくのです。刺繍には様々なモチーフがあり、太陽や星、丸や四角を用いた幾何学模様、アーモンドやざくろなど生活に近い植物、鷲や牛などがあります。
