Mino ware has a history of 1,300 years, beginning with Sue ware in the 7th century in the Mino region of Gifu Prefecture. Glazes and firing methods changed with the times, and during the Azuchi-Momoyama period (1573-1600), ceramics such as [ash-Shino], [Shino], [Oribe], and [Seto-Kuro] were produced due to the popularity of the tea ceremony. In the Showa period (1926-1989), Mino ware attracted much attention and new Mino ware was produced one after another by potters such as Toyozo Arakawa and Rosanjin Kitaoji.

The popular Mino ware "rorokuroku kohiki" (grinding by hand) is a type of Mino ware. The off-white rustic softness and black speckled pattern accentuate the white glaze of the kohiki, which is individually ground by a craftsman and covered with white mud glaze. The colors are not identical, as is the case with industrial products. Please enjoy the taste and expression of pottery as the difference in color and dripping of glaze due to the change in kiln temperature is a characteristic of pottery.
