| Chrysanthemum engraving Shozui [sake cup]. The fabric carved with a chrysanthemum pattern fits well in the hand. This Ichoraku ware depicts Shozui (auspiciousness), landscapes, flowers and birds, pine, bamboo, and plum blossoms in underglaze blue. [About Kyo-yaki and Kiyomizu-yaki] Kyo-yaki pottery has formed a unique and elegant cultural climate over the millennia of the capital's history. Kyo-yaki* Kiyomizu-yaki, which was fostered in the midst of this culture, is a representative gem of traditional Japanese craftsmanship that is brilliant, delicate, and extremely refined. While upholding the spirit of tradition established by our predecessors, such as Ninsei*Kenzan, we have created works of art by applying our expert skills to the contemporary sensibilities of the present day. |
