Description
Van*Gogh (1853-1890) was a difficult person to live with. Because of his dourness and seriousness, he was unable to compromise, clashing with others no matter what he did, and unable to adapt to society no matter what he did. (omitted). If van Gogh had what one might call genius, it was never artistic talent. If van Gogh could be called a genius, it could only be said that it was not his artistic talent, but his life force strong enough to endure the difficulties of life and devote all his strength to the path left to him. I envied him infinitely for this life force. Theo, Van Gogh's younger brother, was his financial and emotional supporter for ten years. Even before Van Gogh began painting his masterpieces in Arles, Theo was the first and only fan of Van Gogh's work in the world to say, "If I live a few more years, I will be famous. Theo was the first and only person in the world to predict van Gogh's success. Tsukasa Kunifuji (Professor, Graduate School of Letters, Osaka University) - Excerpt from the Preface |

Tsukasa Kunifuji (Professor, Graduate School of Letters, Osaka University) - Excerpt from the Preface
