Grandmother and cousin, weaving through photographs the time they lived. Photographer* Akito Yoshida has been photographing the daily lives of his grandmother and cousin who live together in a rural town in Miyazaki Prefecture. The small but irreplaceable time that passes by as they support each other comes to an unexpected end one day. This work was exhibited as one of the main programs of KYOTOGRAPHIE Kyoto International Photography Festival 2017 and struck a chord with many visitors. This long-awaited book is a new reworking of the original private edition photo book published in a limited edition of 111 copies. KYOTOGRAPHIE 2017 Main Program Works *Singapore International Photography Festival 2018 Participating Works Akito Yoshida Born in Miyazaki, Japan in 1980. Lives and works in Kyoto. After working as an elementary school teacher, he became a freelance photographer in 2010. In 2014, he published his first book [Brick Yard] (Paris Photo ? Aperture First Photo Book Award Nominee), a collection of photographs of manual laborers in Bangladesh, and in 2013, he published a book of his own work. Aperture First Photo Book Award nominee) in 2014 and [Tannery] in 2016. He has published his work in major magazines and actively exhibits his photographs. In August 2017, he published his story about his grandmother and cousin [The Absence of Two] as a private edition photo book. This work has been exhibited at KYOTOGRAPHIE Kyoto International Photography Festival (2017), Lianzhou International Photography Festival (2017), Singapore International Photography Festival (2018), and others. He has received numerous awards, including the Nikkei National Geographic Photography Award for Best People Division (2016) and the Konica Minolta Photo*Premio Annual Grand Prize (2014). |

写真家・吉田亮人は、宮崎県の田舎町に二人で暮らす祖母と従兄弟の日常を撮りつづけてきた。
互いを支え合いながら流れてゆく、ささやかながらもかけがえのない時間は、ある日突然、思いもかけない形で結末を迎える。
本作はKYOTOGRAPHIE 京都国際写真祭2017のメインプログラムのひとつとして展示され、多くの来場者の心を打った。
111冊限定で刊行された私家版写真集を元に、新たに編みなおした待望の一冊。

吉田亮人(よしだ・あきひと)
1980年宮崎県生まれ。京都市在住。
小学校教員を経て2010年よりフリーの写真家として活動。バングラデシュの肉体労働者を取材し、2014年に私家版写真集『Brick Yard』(Paris Photo ? Aperture First Photo Book Awardノミネート)、2016年に私家版写真集『Tannery』を出版。主要雑誌に作品を発表すると共に、写真展も精力的に行う。
2017年8月、自身の祖母と従兄弟に関するストーリー『The Absence of Two』を私家版写真集として出版。
本作はKYOTOGRAPHIE京都国際写真祭(2017年)をはじめ、連州国際写真祭(2017年)シンガポール国際写真祭(2018年)などで展示される。日経ナショナルジオグラフィック写真賞ピープル部門最優秀賞(2016)、コニカミノルタ フォト・プレミオ年度大賞(2014)など、受賞多数。
