This item is made using a technique called mekikkioya. This is a technique in which knots are made while using a spool of thread called a shuttle. (The technique is similar to a handicraft technique called tatting lace. [It takes about two to three days to complete a simple necklace, even for experienced craftsmen. *In Turkey, the government operates a women's shelter to protect and support victims of domestic violence and abuse.
