仏界の名医と呼ばれる薬師如来を刻印
正式名称は「薬師瑠璃光如来(やくしるりこうにょらい)」といいます。「お薬師さま」の呼び名で親しまれている仏尊で左手に「薬壺(やっこ)」を持っているのが特徴です。この薬壷の中には「体の病」「心の病」「社会の病」のすべてを治してしまうという霊薬が入っているそうです。昼夜を問わず、人々の病気を治し、安楽を与えてくれるといわれています。そして薬師如来の病気平癒の功徳は随一といわれることから「医王如来」や「医王仏」とも呼ばれています。
ひょうたんは古来よりとても縁起の良いものとされてきました。とくに六つのひょうたんは『六瓢=無病』とされ無病息災のお守りとして用いられてきました。また風水においても『気を集める・貯める道具』とされ金運・財運、健康運、邪気を封じ込めるなどのはたらきがあるとされています。
