His family name was Haruro. *The dragon-headed treasure ship with seven smiling and laughing gods of good fortune is coming on board. Cranes are dancing in the sky, turtles are swimming in the sea, and sea breams are being fished. All of them are happy and joyous. Each of the Seven Gods of Good Fortune is carrying a talisman. A wealth of auspicious objects are depicted. Daikokuten, Ebisu, Benzaiten, Bishamonten, Fukurokuju, Jurojin, and Hotei on a treasure ship are depicted as gods who bring good fortune. They are the objects of deep-rooted faith. *It is said that the Seven Gods of Good Fortune were established in the Muromachi period (1336-1573) and came to be widely worshipped among the common people. ＊北斎が30代の頃に描いた“七福神 宝船”。
雅号は春朗といっていた時代です。
＊龍頭の宝船ににぎやかに笑って七福神が乗ってやってきています。
空には鶴が舞い、海には亀が泳いでおり、鯛も釣り上げられています。皆めでたいものです。
七福神はそれぞれ法 具を持っています。吉祥物が豊富に描かれています。
宝船に乗った大黒天、恵比寿、弁財天、毘沙門天、福禄寿、寿老人、布袋の七人は福をもたらす神々として、
根強い信仰の対象になっています。
＊室町時代から七福神が決められ、広く庶民の間に信仰されるようになったといわ れています。
七福神になった背景は、「仁王経護国般若波羅密教」受持品にある「七難即減、七福即生」という文言によるといわれます。
信仰によって七つの大難、
つまり太陽や星の異変、水害、火災、風害、旱害、盗難などは、ただちに消滅し、七つの福が生れるという意味です。
これになぞらえて七福神が信仰の対象になったといわれています。

厄災も幸福も財宝も海を渡ってやって来ます。
福をもたらす神々も海からやってくるのです。
