He always wears a pirate hat, his right hand is a hook, his legs are prosthetic, and he wears an eye patch over his right eye to look like a typical pirate.â He often appears as a supporting character, and his design has undergone many changes, such as the position of his eye patch and the left and right sides of his hooks, hair on his head, and even a thin mustache around his mouth in early stories. 一見子ども向けのような可愛らしい動物のキャラクターですが、血と臓器にまみれたシュールでグロテスクなギャグアニメ（ブラックコメディ）！
ラッセルは、薄い水色のラッコ。常に海賊帽をかぶり、右手はフック、両足は義足、右目に眼帯を装着して典型的な海賊の格好をしている♪
脇役として登場することも多く、眼帯の位置やフックの左右が変わったり頭に毛が生えたり、初期の話では口の周りに薄いヒゲが生えていたこともあるなど、デザインの変遷が激しいキャラクター。
