Bhairava means [terrible] in Sanskrit. Shiva is said to be a god with two aspects: creation and destruction, and Bhairava is the aspect of destruction. His wide-mouthed, frightening face is characteristic of this deity. In Nepalese and Tibetan homes, it is displayed at the entrance or near the Buddhist altar to ward off evil.
*Hand-carved patterns by artisans
This statue is specially hand-carved by Nepalese craftsmen, one piece at a time. It is a very time-consuming task to draw patterns on a statue with many curves, but even the smallest lines are carefully drawn.
The carved pattern can be one of the following auspicious patterns, which represent auspicious things in Tibet: treasure umbrella, goldfish, treasure vase, lotus, white conch, auspicious knot, victory banner, and wheel of law.
