This book is a translation of A Narrow Bridge: Japan and the Netherlands from 1600, a joint publication of the National Museum of Amsterdam and the Dutch publisher Vantilt. The book explains the history of relations between Japan and the Netherlands over four centuries, showing beautiful photographs of art and artifacts from the museum's and other institutions' collections.
The lavish offerings and valuable historical materials in the book, as well as the text written jointly by Japanese cultural researchers and Dutch historians affiliated with the museum, unravel the meaning of the objects and vividly portray the people who lived in each era, a feature not found in other books of its kind.
