〜Nagoya Etsuke ~ Nagoya Etsuke
Around 1877, Kutani Western-style gold brocade overglaze painting began in Nagoya. The overglaze painting on ceramics mainly for export, which developed around that time, was called Nagoya Etsuke. It was made mainly from Mino*Seto, and incorporated the techniques of the best painters in Kutani and Kyoto. Today, the industry has almost disappeared, but the culture and techniques have been handed down to a few skilled craftsmen.

Eiko Ando was in charge of designing tableware for five-star restaurants in Japan and abroad at Narumi Ceramics Co. After retiring, she worked as a ceramic designer for various manufacturers such as Tachikichi. He is one of the few designers who have inherited the Nagoya Etsuke technique. He has won the prize for excellence in the botanical art category at the Nagoya International Orchid Show and the Botanical Painting Contest sponsored by the National Museum of Nature and Science, Tokyo, among others.
