In modern times, machine-spun yarns are used for ordinary hand weaving, but hand-spun yarns are used for kadhi.
Preparation for weaving begins with the spinning of the yarn, followed by the winding and pulling of the yarn, which requires a great deal of handwork by the craftsmen.
This manual labor results in uneven yarns and weaving. The unevenness of the twisting of the yarn (nep) is one of the characteristics of the fabric, and it is not as uniform as in machine weaving.
The softness of the twisted yarns makes the fabric absorb moisture and dry quickly, and it contains a lot of air, making it cool in the summer and warm in the winter.
