Fireworks and goldfish chopstick rests painted in the deep blue of gosu. The YAKIIRO chopstick rest series expresses the "colors" of "pottery" with each small chopstick rest by using natural contrasts of shading and texture, blotches and grazes created by traditional techniques. The "Iroha" of "Yakimono" is expressed in each small chopstick rest.
[About the underglaze copperplate transfer technique]
The design is printed on Japanese paper, copied onto a vessel, glazed with glass, and baked at 1,340°C. The design is baked at a high temperature, so it is easy to see how the glass glaze is applied to the vessel. The high temperature firing process softens the design. Fireworks and goldfish are painted in traditional gozu (cobalt), which goes well with white porcelain. The expression of each piece is slightly different from the others because the degree of shading and blotting varies depending on subtle changes in the environment (firing temperature and firing position).
