The Orens system, in which the tip pipe slides as the lead depletes, enables a new way of using the pencil: "writing without lead". Since the lead is not ejected = the pipe always supports the lead, the lead mysteriously does not break. This reduces lead breakage, which is the biggest problem with mechanical pencils. Furthermore, by reducing the edge of the tip of the pipe, we have achieved a writing feel similar to that of a conventional mechanical pencil.
