| *[Sumiji Hon Hannya Shingyo]* Kyoto National Museum Collection This is said to have been copied by Kobo-Daishi at Kairyuo-ji Temple (Sumi-ji Temple) in Nara. It is one of the oldest existing copies of the Heart Sutra in Japan. This valuable original has been faithfully reproduced in collotype. It is recommended for those who are just starting to learn how to copy the sutra. *What is a collotype*? While offset printing, a common printing method, expresses colors and shading with a density of small dots, collotype expresses them with continuous gradation, allowing for more realistic and precise detail, just like a photograph. |
